Miami Beach Police Athletic League Award

(1992 & 1995)

Founded in 1958, the Miami Beach Police Athletic League (oldest PAL in Florida) has an impressive track record as a community crime prevention program. Under the leadership of a full-time police officer as Executive Director, and with vital assistance from a volunteer board made up of citizens and local law enforcement officers, PAL offers the youth of the community an array of recreational, athletic and educational activities. Programs are designed with a two-fold purpose: to create better relations between law enforcement officers and youth, and to prevent juvenile delinquency.

 

 

Miami Beach Community Development Corporation Award

January 1993

Founded in 1981 by the Miami Design Preservation League, MBCDC spearheaded the economic revitalization of the Art Deco District, public and private investment on Ocean Drive and Lincoln Road and re-emergence of South Beach as a world-class tourist destination. The organization now works throughout Miami Beach and the region to preserve affordable housing and strengthen residential neighborhoods, to create increased economic opportunity and celebrate an extraordinary architectural and urban endowment, and to improve the quality of life for all those who live and work and visit the City.

 

 

The City of Miami Beach Appreciation Award

(February 1993)

The City of Miami Beach Building Department was established in 1925. The City had its own Building Code until the 1950s when the City adopted the South Florida Building Code.

The modern construction boom began in the 1970s and the State of Florida started mandating statewide building codes. The first law required all municipalities and counties to adopt and enforce one of the four state-recognized model codes known as the “state minimum building codes.”

The MBPD is a fully accredited law enforcement agency, which is dedicated to pursuing every opportunity and engaging all challenges as part of this organization’s on-going quest for excellence. With the continued growth in the popularity of Miami Beach as a destination of choice for out of town and local visitors alike, the Police Department is tasked with balancing the needs of the residential population with the huge increase in the amount of visitors to the City.

The Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1921 to promote the economic well-being of Miami Beach’s citizens, to improve the quality of life for the entire community, and to communicate the view of the business community on major issues of public policy.

Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, Trustee Membership

The Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce is the voice of business in South Florida, representing more than 400,000 employees of member companies. It is an association of businesses and professions organized to create progress essential to attaining the social and economic needs of the community.

 

 

Lincoln Theatre Appreciation

(1997-1998)

The Lincoln Theatre was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.In 1993, the theatre was restored by the U Street Theatre Foundation, with $9 million of aid from the District of Columbia government. The restoration started in 1989 by developer Jeffrey N. Cohen, who was working on a controversial $250 million redevelopment plan, “Jackson Plaza”, for the Shaw/U-Street area.

 

 

Association for Retarded Citizens

(2002)

Association for Retarded Citizens, South Florida is a local chapter of The Arc, one of the largest volunteer organizations in the U.S. Founded in 1953 by a group of concerned parents, Arc, South Florida serves the over 60,000 Miami-Dade County citizens with developmental disabilities.

The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners is the governing body of unincorporated Miami-Dade County and has broad, regional powers to establish policies for Miami-Dade County services. The government provides major metropolitan services countywide and city-type services for residents of unincorporated areas.
